Baviaanskrans Route

This 19km route can be started at any of the two overnight camps but starting at Avon More camp is recommended.

Avon More camp is located in the southern part of the reserve. It consist of two sleeping areas each with 6 'beds' and mattresses. A third under cover area is used as the kitchen/dining area. The camp also has a braai area (wood supplied), flush toilet, bucket shower and hot water shower (when it works).

Explorers camp is situated in the eastern part of Kgaswane Mountain Reserve and can accommodate 12 hikers. Two rooms of 6 beds and mattresses each and a communal dining/kitchen area. The camp also has a boma, flush toilet and shower.

From Avon More camp to Explorer camp. The trail start with an uphill climb to the garden of remembrance and then follows the mountain stream to the tierkloof waterfall. From here the trail continues to the rock pools where hikers can stop for a well deserved swim and then joins the Summit route for a steep climb to the beacon at bakenkop. The path then follows a steep descent down the eastern side of the mountain to Explorers camp.

From Explorers camp to Avon More camp. The trail starts with a short climb and then an easy walk across the entrance road and then down the mountain side to a small stream. From here the trail climbs again to the mountain summit. The trail stays on the summit with spectacular views until a very steep descent to the bottom of the mountain. Here the trail does a hairpin bend back to Avon More camp.
